DeskTally is built on a simple principle: your data is yours and yours alone. The app works entirely on your device. There are no servers, no accounts, and no data collection of any kind.

The short version: DeskTally never connects to the internet. Everything you log stays on your iPhone. We cannot see, access, or collect any of your data.

What We Store

DeskTally stores the following data locally on your device using UserDefaults and on-device storage:

  • Work day logs — the date, day type (office, WFH, off-site, or leave), and an optional note for each entry
  • Settings — your work pattern, attendance target percentage, and period mode preference
  • Saved offices — office name, coordinates, and geofence radius (if you use office detection)
  • Notification preferences — your chosen reminder times (local notifications only)

All of this data lives exclusively on your device. None of it is transmitted anywhere.

How We Use It

Your data is used for one purpose: calculating and displaying your office attendance percentage against the target you set. That is it. There is no secondary use, no profiling, and no monetization of your information.

What We Don't Do

  • We do not collect analytics or usage data
  • We do not use advertising or ad-tracking SDKs
  • We do not make network requests — the app is 100% offline
  • We do not have user accounts, logins, or registration
  • We do not share data with any third party
  • We do not use any third-party SDKs or frameworks that collect data

There is no backend, no database, and no server infrastructure. We literally cannot access your data because it never leaves your phone.

Location Data

DeskTally offers an optional office detection feature that uses your device's location to automatically log when you arrive at your office. This feature requires your explicit permission and can be disabled at any time.

When enabled:

  • Your device monitors a geofence around your saved office location
  • Location processing happens entirely on your device using iOS system APIs
  • Your location data is never transmitted, stored on a server, or shared with anyone
  • No location history is recorded — only the arrival event triggers a day log

If you choose not to enable location access, DeskTally works perfectly well with manual day logging. No functionality is locked behind location permissions.

Notifications

DeskTally can send you reminders to log your day. These are local notifications scheduled on your device. They do not involve any server, push notification service, or external infrastructure. You can customize or disable them entirely in Settings.

Your Control

You have complete control over your data:

  • Delete everything — use "Reset all data" in DeskTally's Settings to permanently erase all stored data
  • Revoke location access — disable location permissions in iOS Settings at any time
  • Disable notifications — turn off reminders within the app or via iOS Settings
  • Uninstall — deleting the app removes all associated data from your device

There is no account to close, no data export to request, and no deletion request to file. You are always in full control.

Children's Privacy

DeskTally is not directed at children under 13. The app is designed for working professionals tracking office attendance. We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change this privacy policy, the updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Given that DeskTally collects no data, meaningful changes are unlikely.
