These terms cover your use of DeskTally, the iOS app for tracking office attendance. By downloading or using the app, you agree to them. They are written to be read, not buried. If anything is unclear, ask us before you rely on it.
The short version: DeskTally is a personal tool, free to use, with your data kept on your device. The numbers it shows are for your own reference, not an official attendance record. Use it to stay informed, not to win an argument you haven't double-checked.
Who We Are
DeskTally is built and operated by Vrutin Tarunchandra ("we", "us"). You can reach us at hello@desktally.app. These terms are an agreement between you and us. They sit alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how your data is handled.
Your Licence to Use DeskTally
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use DeskTally on Apple devices that you own or control, in line with Apple's standard App Store terms and these terms. You may not copy, resell, reverse-engineer, or redistribute the app, except where that restriction is not permitted by law.
The app, its design, and its content remain ours. Your logged data remains yours.
The App Is a Personal Tool, Not an Official Record
This is the most important thing on this page. DeskTally helps you estimate your office attendance against a target you set. It is for your personal information only.
- The percentages, statuses, and forecasts it shows are calculated from what you log and the settings you choose. They are only as accurate as the days you enter.
- DeskTally is not an authoritative attendance record, a timesheet, or a payroll system, and it is not connected to your employer.
- Bank holiday data and attendance calculations are provided in good faith but may contain errors. Always check against your employer's own policy and records before relying on a figure.
We are not responsible for any employment outcome, dispute, decision, or consequence that arises from your use of the app or from the figures it displays. The app informs you; it does not speak for you.
Acceptable Use
Use DeskTally lawfully and as intended. Do not attempt to disrupt the app, circumvent its protections, use it to store unlawful content, or use it in any way that infringes someone else's rights. We may end your licence if you breach these terms.
Optional Paid Features
DeskTally is free to use, and the core of the app always will be. We may offer optional paid features (for example under a "DeskTally Plus" name). If and when we do, the following terms apply to them. Until then, this section is here for transparency.
- Billing through Apple. Any purchase or subscription is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple processes the payment, manages your subscription, and applies the price shown to you at the point of purchase. We never see or handle your card details.
- Auto-renewing subscriptions. A subscription renews automatically for the same period at the same price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your Apple ID account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Managing and cancelling. You can view, manage, or cancel a subscription at any time in your Apple ID account settings on your device. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not retroactively refund the current period.
- Free trials. If a free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited when you buy the matching subscription. Cancel before the trial ends to avoid being charged.
- Refunds. Purchases are handled by Apple, so refund requests are made to Apple through your purchase history, subject to Apple's policies. We cannot issue App Store refunds directly.
- Accounts and sync. Some optional features may let you sync your data across devices or to the web. These features are opt-in and require an account. When you use them, your data leaves your device and is handled as described in our Privacy Policy. If you do not turn them on, DeskTally continues to work entirely on your device.
No Warranty
DeskTally is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not promise that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that every calculation will be correct in every case. Features may change, and we may update or discontinue parts of the app over time.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, earnings, employment, or opportunity, arising from your use of DeskTally. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.
Apple's Role
You download DeskTally through the App Store. Apple is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for the app or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide support for the app. Where these terms grant Apple any benefit as a third-party beneficiary, Apple may enforce it. Your use of the app must also comply with Apple's App Store Terms of Service.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The current version always lives on this page with its effective date. If we make a material change, we will make a reasonable effort to flag it. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, without affecting any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have in your country of residence.
